Solar Panels & Battery Storage

How Do Solar Panels Work?

A solar PV panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created.

The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated.

Solar PV systems are made up of several panels, with each panel generating between 300 and 500 Watts of energy in strong sunlight. Typical systems contain around 15 panels for domestic and hundreds on industrial sites which generate direct current (DC) electricity. Because the electricity used for appliances is alternating current (AC), an inverter is installed along with the system to convert DC electricity to AC. This electricity can be used throughout your home, or exported to the grid.

What Are The Advantages
Of Solar Energy?

There are many advantages to powering your home
with solar energy:.

BENEFITS

^

Reduce Your Electricity Costs

By generating your own power through solar panels, you can dramatically reduce your annual electricity bill. Plus, if you generate more power than you use, you can earn money by selling it back to the grid through the Smart Export Guarantee

^

Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Solar power is a source of clean energy so using it to power your property sustainably will mean you’re contributing to the UK achieving its carbon reduction goals – a vital step in helping to combat climate change. Cutting your carbon footprint will also mean you’re helping to protect wildlife habitats, communities and economies that are threatened by a warming climate.

^

A renewable source of energy

As well as helping to combat climate change, renewable energies like solar also help to reduce air pollution, which is one of the biggest challenges we’re facing globally.

Easy to install

Solar panels can easily be installed on your roof, however it’s important to remember that the tilt and direction of your roof will have an impact on how much energy you can expect to get from your panels. With a range of systems available we can help you optimise your solar system to best match your needs.

What is a solar battery storage system?

Solar battery storage is a type of energy storage technology that customers can use in conjunction with their solar panels to store electricity gathered during the daytime. This energy can then be used when needed, for example, at night when the sun isn’t shining.

These batteries are often made of lead-acid or lithium-ion. They have the ability to store the electricity generated by your solar panels which can then be used in the evening.

Lithium-ion batteries are the most efficient batteries available on the market, delivering fast-charging and large capacity.
